The crusader baseball team opened up their preseason with a 6-5 win over Oratory Prep. The Crusaders showed great plate discipline and an excellent eye for the strike zone as they managed 9 walks, and turned 6 of those walks into doubles, as the crusaders stole 6 bases. Danny Bautist picked up the win for the crusaders in a 1 inning relief appearance.

The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday March 17 as they play host to Perth Amoby Vo Tech. Probable starter for the crusaders will be Senior Left Hander Quinn Higazi.

Robert W. 'Bob' Billian, local philanthropist and citizen of the year

BOUND BROOK -- Bob Billian, 83, died Nov. 18, 2007 after months of fighting congestive heart disease. A memorial service following his cremation will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, followed by internment in the Bound Brook Cemetery.

Born next door to the High Street residence in Bound Brook which he called home for 81 of his 83 years, Bob is perhaps best known, respected and loved for converting the old landfill on the east side of town in to a 16-acre park and beautification project. At no cost to the town but rather financed by a Billian Family Foundation the Billion-Legion Park (so named because Bob readily acknowledged the park could not have happened without the active help of his friends within the John Biondi Post of the American Legion) the park is host to the Bound Brook High School baseball team, two soccer/football fields, a "Jungle Jim" play area for youngsters and a foot path with benches and seniors.

In 2004, the Bound Brook Elks honored Bob by naming him "Citizen of the Year."

He was a member of the several local groups including the American Legion, Rotary, Kiwanis Club, the Elks lodge, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, as well as the Air Force Reserve Officers Association, the Washington Camp Ground Association and the Green Brook Flood Control Commission.

During World War II, Billian piloted B-17 bombers in the 8th Air Force stationed in England. Upon returning after the war he earned his engineering degree from Rutgers University. He volunteered for active duty during the Korean War and flew 44 combat missions from Ashia, Japan.

He joined Trans World Airlines upon release to inactive duty where he flew internationally and domestically for over 32 years including piloting the now famous Boeing 747. It was upon retiring from TWA that Billian recognized the old landfill on the east side of town presented an opportunity for the town which he left had given him so much. Thus was conceived the Park which became a reality because of Bob's concentrated and focused efforts.

His generosity has touched many unnamed residents of the town in which he was so proud to have been raised and educated. Active in his support of Boy Scouts of American where he earned his "Eagle" he has continued to send under-privileged scouts to summer camp. He has also established a trust fund to underwrite the cost to maintain and improve Billian-Legion Park eliminating any cost to the tax payers.

Bob is survived by his longtime, dearest friend, Lotte Wohlbold.

He was predeceased by his older brother, Harold and wife, Jane of Villanova, Pa. He is survived by brothers, Al and wife, Mickey of Ft. Wayne, Ind. as well as Doug and wife, Louise of Atlanta and New York City. Other survivors include three nephews, four nieces, four grandnephews, nine grandnieces and five great-grandnieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to Means on Wheels, 20 S. Third Ave., Manville 08835.

Arrangements are being handled by Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook
